Baesangmyun Brewery celebrated its 30th anniversary by reintroducing 'Saeng-Sansachun,' a live (unpasteurized) version of its iconic fruit-flavored rice wine Sansachun. Originally launched in the late 1990s and famed for its sweet-and-tart flavor made from Korean rice and hawthorn berries (sansana-mu), Sansachun helped popularize the brand in the 2000s. Saeng-Sansachun, first served in 1996 in limited amounts without heat treatment, returns with active yeast for a fresher, cleaner, slightly nuttier and sweeter profile while retaining Sansachun’s signature bright acidity. The new release has a 12.5% ABV, comes in a larger 750 ml transparent plastic bottle to highlight its deep red hue, and features distinct labeling with hawthorn berries and a red cup marked with the hanja/character for “raw” (生). The first 2,000-bottle batch sold out in a week; a second batch of 4,000 bottles goes on sale March 23.
