Pet humanization is spreading in Korea as malls and hotels roll out tailored services for pets. Retailers like Emart’s Molly’s brand launched holiday pet hanbok (traditional Korean dress) and festive snacks such as dog-friendly tteokguk (rice cake soup) and ‘meng-zzonku’ (chewy cookies made from carob). Major malls added pet strollers, elevators, indoor rest areas and a pet park with water and paw-washing stations; department stores relaxed stroller rules and opened 'pet ground' dining areas. Demand for premium pet fashion is rising—items like a Moncler down vest (920,000 KRW) and Ralph Lauren sweatshirts sell out quickly. Pet-friendly hotels report high occupancy: Kinok in Gyeongju topped 80% during Lunar New Year, offering hands-on pet-food workshops and behavioral counseling. Conrad Seoul’s “Pet Maison 2026” provides in-room treadmills, gym balls and dry rooms so pets can exercise and bathe after holiday treats. Experts say this is a long-term shift driven by low birth rates and more single-person households treating pets as family, favoring safety and quality over price; the global pet market could reach about 825 trillion KRW by 2036.
