Winter strawberries have spiked in price after last summer’s extreme weather reduced supply—retail premium varieties can reach around 50,000 won per pack. While strawberries contain about 60 mg vitamin C per 100 g, other, more affordable foods can provide equal or greater amounts. Mandarin oranges (gyul) have 30–40 mg per 100 g—two to three fruits meet daily needs. Kiwifruit (sun-gold 152 mg/100 g; green 85–161 mg/100 g), broccoli (~89 mg/100 g), kale (~120 mg/100 g) and especially red bell pepper (paprika) (~375 mg/100 g) are high in vitamin C. Nutrition experts say climate-driven supply drops are pushing fruit prices up and recommend using vegetables like bell pepper or broccoli to maintain vitamin C intake without relying on expensive strawberries.
