Welcome Financial Group Opens Free Lobby Art Space to Support Emerging Korean Artists

Welcome Financial Group has converted the lobby of its Yongsan headquarters into “Art Space Yongsan,” a free exhibition venue to promote emerging young artists. Curated by Kim Hee-kyung of Gallery Aswords, the program emphasizes artist-centered curation, independent selection and sustainable cultural sponsorship rather than corporate promotion. The current show features artist Lee Eun-chae (이은채) with works about light and memory. Organizers highlighted the project’s two key features: full public access and a focus on emerging talent, providing practical exhibition opportunities amid a tough economy. By situating art in an everyday banking lobby, the initiative aims to lower barriers to culture so passersby can unexpectedly encounter art; future plans include broader media and community programs to develop the space as an urban cultural hub.
