Korean National Heritage Showcased in New York with Performances, Media Art and Temple Food Experiences

The Cultural Heritage Administration and its National Heritage Foundation teamed with the Korean Cultural Center in Manhattan to launch “Korea on Stage in New York,” a campaign promoting Korea’s national heritage. Kicked off in Times Square with large-scale video displays and special performances, the program features media art, traditional performing arts (including the fan dance and sogo drum dance), and temple food (a style of Buddhist cuisine) workshops. Performances by the National Heritage Foundation troupe and a temple-food class led by master monk Jeonggwan drew over 1,700 sign-ups. Officials said the initiative aims to highlight the deep roots of K-culture and encourage global visits to Korea’s heritage sites; a “heritage visitor passport” was also presented to singer Kevin Woo as part of the opening events.
