Korean-American contemporary artist Kristin Kim (Kim Christine Sun) has been chosen as the artist for the ‘MMCA X LG OLED Series 2026.’ Her large-scale, site-specific exhibition will open July 31 at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MMCA) Seoul Box, a 14-meter-high open exhibition space, supported by LG Electronics and using advanced OLED display technology. Kim, who is deaf, explores the experience of hearing loss through visual art—combining sound translation systems called “graphic notation,” drawing, animation, performance and video—to examine communication structures and social relationships. Her work reframes Deaf community experiences as broader issues of accessibility and interaction. Based in Berlin and born in California, she recently had a major solo show at the Whitney Museum and was listed in ArtReview’s “Power 100.” The upcoming project features a large animated video installation and marks a key expansion of her practice into digital animation.
