Six Silla Gold Crowns to Reunite in Gyeongju Every Decade

The National Gyeongju Museum's special exhibition 'Silla Gold Crowns: Power and Prestige' has gathered six Silla gold crowns and six gold belts together for the first time in 104 years. The museum announced the crowns that were united during last year’s APEC leaders' events will be exhibited together in Gyeongju every ten years; a major reunion exhibition is planned for 2035. This spring, a Silla exhibition, 'Silla: Gold and Sacredness,' will open at the Musée Guimet (Guimet Asian Art Museum) in Paris, and a Silla-focused show will travel to the Shanghai Museum later this year. Domestic touring exhibitions are also scheduled in Yangsan (May) and Cheongdo (September). The Gyeongju special drew huge crowds—an “open run” phenomenon—with over 251,000 visitors so far and daily limits selling out; total attendance may reach about 300,000 by closing. Museum officials said interest surged internationally after a replica gold crown from the Cheonmachong tomb was gifted to U.S. President Donald Trump, raising global attention to Silla’s 5th–6th century golden-age culture.
