Cosmax has become the first South Korean cosmetics company to adopt ISO 23675, the new in vitro international standard for measuring SPF. Established in December 2024, ISO 23675 uses PMMA (polymethyl methacrylate) plates and laboratory equipment to assess UV absorption and transmission. Unlike older methods that required 10+ human subjects and took 4–5 weeks, this lab-based test can be completed in one day, drastically shortening product development time. The process uses robotic arms to apply formulations evenly, improving consistency and standardization. Cosmax plans to help domestic clients enter the European sun-care market, where this test is officially accepted, and says the move will reinforce its leadership in next-generation UV protection research.
