Is Pricier Olive Oil Always Tastier and Healthier?

Price often reflects production methods: extra virgin olive oil (cold-pressed) preserves antioxidants, polyphenols, and flavor, while refined olive oil undergoes additional processing that can reduce some beneficial compounds but is cheaper and suitable for high-heat cooking. Experts say you don’t have to buy the most expensive bottle to get health benefits. For everyday use, reasonably priced extra virgin olive oil works well for salads, pasta, and light sautés. What matters more than cost is how you choose and store it: pick dark glass bottles or tins, check the harvest date or best-by date (generally fresh within two years), and keep oil in a cool, dark place away from the stove to protect antioxidants and flavor.
