Trip.com, a global travel platform, analyzed booking data around the Lunar New Year and found travelers—especially from Korea—are choosing longer and farther trips. In Korea, 65% of travelers opted for mid-to-long trips; 43% booked 4–7 day stays and 22% booked 8–14 day trips. Globally, bookings for stays of 7+ nights rose about 40% year-on-year and long-haul flight bookings grew roughly 50%. During the Lunar New Year window (Feb 13–25), many Asian travelers could extend holidays up to 9–15 days by using a few leave days (연차). Popular destinations expanded beyond nearby countries (Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Vietnam) to long-haul spots like the US, Spain, and Australia. Inbound demand to Korea jumped about 88% year-on-year, with growth from Taiwan (Kaohsiung), Japan (beyond Tokyo/Osaka to cities like Nagoya, Sapporo, Fukuoka, Okinawa), and rising visitors from Europe, North America, and Central Asia. Travel spending shifted toward premium options: first-class airfares up 83%, business class up 38%, 5-star hotel bookings up 59%, and top-tier hotels (4–5 star) making up ~75% of bookings in some markets. Trip.com Korea emphasized expanding products and content to support more personalized travel planning.
