Record Number of Passengers Ride New Donghae Line in First Month

In January, Korea's new Donghae railway line, connecting Busan and Gangneung, recorded 180,000 passengers. Averaging 6,045 daily passengers, it leads among five new rail lines in Korea. Major stops like Gangneung and Donghae saw notable passenger traffic. The line has boosted tourism, making Gangwon's attractions more accessible to visitors from the southeast. However, the current train speed of 150 km/h means long travel times, signaling the need for faster KTX-eum trains to reduce travel duration from Busan to Gangneung to below 3 hours.
