Pyeongtaek Municipal Gugak Orchestra Presents 'Spring Sounds' Featuring Jang Sa-ik and Kim Young-im

The Pyeongtaek Municipal Gugak Orchestra will celebrate the opening of the Pyeongtaek Art Center with its signature spring program 'Spring Sounds,' a repertoire that captures the freshness of early spring through gugak (traditional Korean music). The concert, which sold out quickly last year, brings together leading artists including artistic director Park Beom-hoon, folk singers Jang Sa-ik, Kim Young-im, and Yu Ji-sook. Under Park's baton, the two-part program opens with his orchestral composition 'Chunmu' featuring choreographer Chae Hyang-soon and dancers Park Kyung-moo and Kim Moon-chae. Yu Ji-sook will perform soulful seodo sori (northern-style folk singing) pieces such as Gineari and Jajinari, with special appearance by piri (Korean reed instrument) master Choi Kyung-man. Kim Young-im will close the first half with signature gyeonggi minyo (Gyeonggi folk songs) including Haeun-gok, Hano-baeknyeon, and Gangwon-do Arirang. The second half spotlights Jang Sa-ik singing Korean sentimental songs like Jjillekkot, Kkotgugyeong, and Spring Day has Gone, accompanied by the orchestra. The concert aims to offer communal enjoyment of Korean traditional sound and deepen Pyeongtaek’s cultural presence. 'Spring Sounds' takes place March 4 at 7:30 PM at Pyeongtaek Art Center; tickets are available via NOL Ticket (NolTicket).
