Korean Contemporary Dance 'I Was Bitten by a Dog' Interprets Panopticon Surveillance in a Circular Prison

The contemporary Korean dance work 'I Was Bitten by a Dog' will be staged March 6–8 at Arko Arts Theater in Daehangno, Seoul. Using the panopticon (a circular prison design) and the idea of invisible gazes as central metaphors, the piece explores how external surveillance becomes internalized, turning people into self-monitoring bodies. Dancers move in restrained, repetitive rhythms that occasionally spark gestures rooted in Korean aesthetics, symbolizing suppressed vitality and beauty within a controlled environment. Created by Su Dance Company with choreography by Choi Su-jin and direction by Yang Seung-ho and Lee Young-il, the production features a large ensemble and contributions from designers, composers, and dramaturgs. Performances are March 6 at 7:30 p.m. and March 7–8 at 4:00 p.m.; suitable for audiences 13 and older.
