Korean National Baseball Team Completes Training Camp in Saipan; Mariana Islands Prove 'Sportscation' Appeal

South Korea’s national baseball team wrapped up a pre-World Baseball Classic training camp in Saipan from January 10–21 at the Oleai Sports Complex. The 30-member squad, led by manager Ryu Ji-hyeon and featuring players such as Ryu Hyun-jin and Kim Hye-seong, focused on weight training, conditioning, and team-building using the complex’s facilities and efficient logistics. Players expressed high satisfaction with the venue, and held fan interactions including signings and photos. The Marianas Tourism Authority said the camp demonstrated Saipan’s readiness as an international sports training destination and plans to promote the islands as a “sportscation” (a sports-focused vacation) hub by attracting more training camps and developing sports-travel content.
