Starting this month, tourists are restricted from entering the Bukchon Hanok Village in Seoul's Jongno District during early morning and evening hours. Violators will face a penalty of 100,000 won (approximately $85). Tourist visitation is allowed only between 10 AM and 5 PM. The decision was made to address issues of privacy and inconvenience caused to local residents by the influx of tourists. Despite previous measures, non-compliance persisted, leading to the current strict enforcement. The district aims to balance residents' rights with tourism through flexible management and by identifying tourists by their appearance and behavior. From 2026, tourist bus restrictions will also be enforced to alleviate traffic congestion.
