The Seoul Ballet Company presents Decadance in Gangneung, showcasing a blend of powerful and flexible movement rooted in Ohad Naharin’s works. Decadance (deca = ten, dance = dance) is a reconstructed repertoire that assembles segments from eight of Naharin’s pieces, first staged in 2000 to mark his 10th year leading Israel’s Batsheva Dance Company. Each company performs its own version; Seoul’s production introduces new arrangements and improvisational elements. Based on Naharin’s movement language Gaga (Gaga = a training method emphasizing bodily experience and resisting rigid cultural rules), the performance emphasizes spontaneity, humor, and audience interaction—dancers invite spectators into pauses and sometimes onto the stage to join in. Expect dynamic, non-formalized choreography, suit-clad ensemble sequences, and moments that blur the line between performer and viewer, all encouraging personal freedom through movement.
