Seven Eleven Korea says its recent collaboration with veteran Chinese chef Hu Deokjuk (후덕죽) has sold 150,000 ready-to-eat items in two weeks, helping overall ready-meal sales grow 16% year-on-year. Launched Jan 21, the initial duo—Hu Deokjuk Spicy Pepper Pork Triangle Gimbap and Hu Deokjuk Chinese-style Bulgogi Gimbap—benefited from the star-chef effect and demand for convenient meals. The chain quickly expanded the lineup with new lunchboxes, burgers, snacks and a yuzu highball drink, including a ‘Jjamppong Meat Stir-fry Lunchbox’, a Kkanpung (spicy-sweet Chinese-style) chicken burger, a classic yuringi (fried chicken with sauce) salad option, and a Kkanpung-flavored seafood chip snack. Seven Eleven plans more chef collaborations to offer restaurant-level flavors at affordable prices.
