Kia sold 3,628 electric vehicles (EVs) in January, a 483% year‑over‑year increase, despite the usual subsidy (government financial support) gap that typically weakens demand early in the year. Sales were broad-based across the lineup: PV5 (a purpose-built vehicle, PBV) led with 1,026 units, while EV5 and EV3 recorded 847 and 737 units respectively. Earlier-than-expected confirmation of national EV subsidies (국고 보조금) reduced buyer uncertainty, and an expanded new model lineup—including EV4, EV5 and PV5—gave consumers more choices. Kia also boosted incentives with ultra-low-rate financing and guaranteed residual-value payment plans, and cut prices on models like EV5 and EV6. With the government offering up to an additional 1,000,000 KRW for buyers who scrap or sell internal-combustion cars when buying an EV, analysts expect Kia’s EV sales momentum to continue amid stronger green policy support.
