Gangwon Land has formed a 10-member steering committee, including co-chairs Song Gye-ho and Kim Hyun-seon, to plan a tentative '2026 Coal Mine Culture Festival' aimed at regenerating former coal-industry areas and boosting regional tourism. The festival will connect local signature events with the opening of 'Coal Mine Culture Park M650'—a renovated complex from the Dongwon Tan-... (M650 combines Mine and Museum 'M' and the altitude 650m, representing coal-mining cultural assets)—scheduled to open in June. The committee, made up of company staff, local government and cultural leaders, and experts, will coordinate with partner institutions, set the festival's direction and roadmap over the next six months, and develop programs centered on the M650 museum as a landmark. Co-chair Song said the goal is to transform the region's coal-mining history into cultural content and grow the festival into a nationally representative industrial-culture event.
