Renowned conductor Myung-Whun Chung returned to Seoul leading the Dresden Staatskapelle (SKD) for the final of five concerts at the Seoul Arts Center Concert Hall, filling the 2,000-seat hall. Chung, closely associated with the 478-year-old SKD, and the orchestra delivered flawless performances of a repeated program. Rising piano star Im Yoon-chan, known for his flowing hair and energetic stage presence, played Schumann’s Piano Concerto in A minor in the first half to rapturous applause — his cadenza and clear, incisive touch drew particular praise. Audience excitement was so intense that some tried to take unauthorized photos and staff intervened. After a standing ovation, Im returned for an encore with Chopin’s Waltz in A minor.
