The Ministry of SMEs and Startups held a meeting in Cheongju to share successful overseas expansion cases of traditional market K-food. Young vendors and officials discussed achievements and challenges in exporting and distribution. Representatives from Cheongju Yukgeori Famous Dumplings and Golmok Makgeolli described how they entered foreign markets, consumer reactions, and export hurdles. They stressed manufacturing standardization, diversified distribution, export roadmaps, content planning and brand storytelling. The makgeolli (traditional Korean rice wine) example highlighted use of local agricultural products and potential as a tourism-specialty product with global appeal. Participants discussed tailored strategies reflecting market and product characteristics and policy support to boost K-food abroad. The ministry pledged continued customized support so traditional markets — seen as origins of K-food with long-held flavors and stories — can compete internationally.
