Pyeongtaek Art Center officially opened on January 30 with a performance by conductor Jung Myung‑whun leading the Dresden Staatskapelle and pianist Lim Yoon‑chan. Located in the Godeok International New Town in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province, the new cultural complex cost 130.1 billion won and spans basement to fourth floor, housing a main hall (1,318 seats), a small black‑box style hall (305 seats), galleries and rehearsal rooms. The main hall blends traditional shoebox acoustics with a modified design to address rear‑center reflection. The center aims to become a performing arts hub for southwestern Gyeonggi. Its inaugural season offers a star‑studded lineup including the National Opera‘s The Marriage of Figaro, Wynton Marsalis and Jazz at Lincoln Center, the musical Maybe Happy Ending, Ambiguous Dance Company’s The Belt, UK company 1927’s Please Look Back, singer Choi Baek‑ho’s 50th anniversary concert, Jung Myung‑whun with KBS Symphony Orchestra, pianist Paik Kun‑woo’s 70th anniversary recital, National Ballet’s Giselle, Universal Ballet’s The Nutcracker, and singer Na Yoon‑sun’s Christmas concert.
