The Seoul Museum of History has declared 2026 a year of 'connection', announcing exhibitions, education, international exchanges and conservation projects linking city, world and generations. Major exhibitions include: 'Hanseongbu' (Apr–Jul) on Joseon-era municipal administration; 'Hanyang City Fortress' (Jul–Oct) on the 600-year evolution of Seoul's fortress; and a show on the 1966 Seoul Master Plan (Aug–Nov). Branch museums will spotlight campus life, childcare and the 100th anniversary of the film Arirang with 'Re:Arirang' (Arirang: a traditional Korean folk song). International touring shows will present Korean folk paintings (minhwa) and a Shanghai exchange on hanok (traditional Korean house) and apartments. New facilities opening this year include a children’s museum (March) focused on grades 3–4 and the large Insa urban relics exhibition (July) preserving on-site finds. The museum will host international meetings, anniversary displays, youth co-designed merchandise programs, and conservation projects using 3D tech to restore key artifacts such as the Seoul Fortress Large Map. Director Choi says 2026 will be a turning point as the museum becomes a platform connecting past and present, citizens and the city, Seoul and the world.
