A Korean trend for the 'Dubai chewy cookie' (두바이쫀득쿠키), nicknamed 'dujjonkku' (두쫀쿠), is spreading fast. Starbucks launched a similar 'Dubai Chewy Roll' at six Seoul stores with 44 pieces per store; limited to two per customer, it sold out within about 10 minutes amid long early-morning queues. Other cafes and bakeries have released many variations—waffles, croissants, doughnuts, cakes, and chocolate or matcha versions—while chains like Dunkin', Orion and Samlip have rolled out their own takes. New slang like 'dujjon-guri' (fans who make the cookie at home) reflects the craze. The trend has crossed borders via social media: cafes in the U.S., Canada, China, Japan and even Dubai are offering similar chewy cookies, sometimes with local twists (e.g., ube flavor). Starbucks plans Dubai chocolate drinks next, while brands watch demand and supply for key ingredients before scaling up production.
