South Korea’s Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries selected red sea bream (chamdom, prized red-skinned bream often served at celebrations) and gim (dried edible seaweed) as February’s seafood picks. Red sea bream is a high-protein, low-fat, low-calorie fish rich in potassium and selenium, which may help prevent high blood pressure and slow aging; it’s enjoyed grilled, stewed, or raw as sashimi. Gim, a nutrient-dense red algae product and major Korean export, is rich in protein, essential amino acids, calcium, and magnesium, supporting growth, stamina, bone health, and nerve stability; it’s used in dishes like gimbap (rice rolls), gimbugak (crispy seaweed snacks), and gimguk (seaweed soup). More details are available on the government’s food-health site.
