High1 Resort in Jeongseon hosted the 33rd Korea Semiconductor Conference, drawing about 4,500 academics and industry researchers. The event, co-hosted by Seoul National University, the Korea Semiconductor Industry Association, and the Korea Semiconductor Research Association, featured some 1,900 paper presentations, 90 sessions, student talk concerts, and awards — the largest in the conference’s history. Around 2,500 resort rooms were occupied and nearby restaurants and lodgings saw increased business; the Korea Tourism Organization estimates the event generated roughly 2.5 billion won (about $2 million) in economic ripple effects. Organizers ran a local food market at the resort’s Sky Garden to promote regional products and share benefits with the community. The conference also signals a strategic shift by Kangwon Land away from a casino-focused model toward MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences, exhibitions) and mixed-resort development, as it aims to attract more large-scale events like the Asia Model Festival.
