Seoul’s HoRi Art Space is hosting painter and installation artist Yoo Giju (b. 1986) in a solo exhibition, "Hunting the unseen – Shadow Hunter," through Feb. 28. Yoo’s work explores presence by tracing the invisible: controlled breaths and paper movement shape graphite powder into dense, textured marks on paper, a method she likens to dancing with the sheet. These pieces — part of a pareidolia (seeing faces or forms in random patterns) series — probe how perception reconstructs lost forms. The show extends beyond two-dimensional surfaces into spatial installations that amplify shadows: everyday objects placed under low light cast elongated silhouettes that transform the gallery into a dreamlike “playground” (놀이동산) of ferris wheels and roller coasters. Yoo, who trained in painting and intermedia at Kookmin University, works across painting, video, sculpture and ceramics to examine identity on the edge of existence.
