Cinemas Join 'Ddojjongku' Craze with Special Combos and Free Giveaways

Some South Korean movie theaters are tapping into the viral 'Ddojjongku' (Dubai chewy cookie) trend by offering special combo deals and free giveaway screenings. Ddojjongku is a dessert made from kadaif (a thin Turkish pastry), pistachio spread, chocolate, and marshmallow, wrapped into a chewy cookie. Lotte Cinema launched an exclusive 'Ddojjongku combo' at its World Tower branch in collaboration with dessert brand Butter & Shelter, pairing popcorn with soda (13,900 KRW) or coffee (19,900 KRW); the item sold out briefly and was restocked. Megabox held free-cookie screenings and announced its own combos: certain re-release screenings will give one Ddojjongku per ticket, and from Jan 31 select branches will sell popcorn combos that include the cookie. Online reactions ranged from calls to expand the offering nationwide to jokes about messy faces, with some hoping prices will drop as big companies join the trend.
