Starbucks Korea announced a voluntary recall starting March 2 for two humidifier models given as e-frequency (a promotional loyalty campaign) gifts last winter after reports of localized fires likely caused by battery overheating. About 393,548 units distributed between Oct 30 and Dec 31 are subject to the recall. Customers are asked to stop using the devices immediately. The humidifiers used KC-certified batteries under Korea’s safety regulations, and Starbucks is working with the supplier (Hanil Electric) and authorities to investigate the cause while proceeding with the proactive recall. Starbucks will provide a 30,000 KRW mobile Starbucks card to every customer who returns a unit. Returns will be collected by courier arranged through the Starbucks app from March 2; in-store return details will be posted on the company website. Starbucks apologized and pledged to carry out the recall and related procedures quickly and thoroughly.
