South Korea recorded a new high in inbound visitors last year with 18.94 million arrivals, led by tourists from China, Japan, Taiwan and the U.S. December saw 1.52 million visitors, a 19.5% rise year‑on‑year and recovery to about 104% of the same month in 2019. China was the largest source market (5.48 million for the year), followed by Japan and Taiwan. At the same time, Koreans made 29.55 million trips abroad last year, slightly up from the previous year. The government and tourism authorities say tourism is emerging as a new pillar of “K‑content” alongside K‑pop, dramas, films, food and beauty. (K‑content: Korea-origin cultural content)
