South Korea Signs MOU with Canada to Expand Auto Production as Submarine Bid Continues

South Korea and Canada signed an MOU to strengthen cooperation in future mobility, creating an industry cooperation council. Key areas include vehicle and battery manufacturing, critical minerals, AI, clean energy, and hydrogen mobility. Canada pledged to support expansion of Korean automakers’ production facilities and boost electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing opportunities. The Canadian government also plans investments to reinforce its battery supply chain through battery production, material processing, and critical mineral refining and recycling. Canadian ministers said Korean firms have committed billions of dollars in battery-related investment. The announcement coincided with a visit by a South Korean special economic envoy promoting Seoul’s bid for Canada’s C$60 trillion submarine project (CPSP), where Korea competes with Germany.
