At age 90, Kim Yang-mu held her first solo exhibition, "90세, 삶을 그리다" (Painting Life at 90), at Nosong Gallery in Jang'an Community Center through Jan. 31. Living near Gwanggyosan and mother to seven, Kim began drawing and coloring with stamped coloring books given by her daughter to lift her spirits in old age. Encouraged by her daughters to freely sketch her world, she filled sketchbooks with everyday scenes—trees near her home, ants, memories of her late husband, pizza shared with grandchildren, and seasonal blossoms. Though new to art, Kim found drawing joyful and disciplined herself to finish each page in one day to keep color consistency. Her fourth daughter documented the story and successfully applied for a one-week gallery rental under local campaigns promoting community artwork. The exhibition coincided with Kim’s 90th birthday on lunar Dec. 12 (celebrated Jan. 30), and she expressed gratitude for visitors’ kind words. isRecommend: true
