Samsung Family Hosts Gala in Washington Celebrating the Lee Kun-hee Collection

Samsung chairman Lee Jae-yong and other members of the Samsung family attended a gala dinner at the Smithsonian Arts and Industries Building in Washington to celebrate the successful U.S. showing of the ‘Lee Kun-hee Collection’—a major overseas exhibition of artworks donated by the late Lee Kun-hee. The reception, attended by about 270 guests including U.S. Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo (Howard Lutnick reported in Korean press as attending), Hyundai Motor Group chairman Chung Euisun, U.S. lawmakers and diplomats, featured speeches, a dinner, and performances by soprano Sumi Jo, pianist Yekwon Sunwoo, and violinist Nuri Jeong. Organizers said the National Museum of Asian Art exhibition drew over 61,000 visitors and is expected to surpass 65,000; follow-up shows are planned for the Art Institute of Chicago and the British Museum in London.
