South Korea’s worker vacation support program, started in 2018, has encouraged domestic travel and work–life balance by matching employee contributions: if a worker pays 200,000 KRW, government and employer each add 100,000 KRW for a 400,000 KRW travel fund. Since launch, 790,000 workers and 83,000 companies have joined, generating 283 billion KRW (about 2830억) in travel spending. A 2023 survey found participants averaged 4.5 days and 2.5 trips, spending on average 886,725 KRW—roughly 8.9 times the government subsidy—showing strong consumption multiplier effects. Employers report higher staff satisfaction and improved welfare, and worker re-enrollment intention is over 91%. The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and Korea Tourism Organization will recruit companies for a 100,000-person program starting on the 30th, offering benefits like certification points and promotions, plus discount campaigns for travel packages.
