KOLMAR Wins Final Lawsuit Over Sunscreen Tech Leak by Intercos Korea

KOLMAR, a major Korean cosmetics manufacturer, announced a final legal victory against Intercos Korea (the Korean unit of Italian ODM Intercos) over the theft of core sunscreen (sun care) formulation and trade secret materials. The company recovered 31.2 million KRW in legal fees after former KOLMAR employees A and B moved to Intercos Korea in 2018 and leaked prescription and business-secret data related to sun cream. A and B’s convictions were upheld by the Supreme Court in January 2024, and in October 2024 a Suwon court fined Intercos Korea 500,000 KRW under Korea’s Unfair Competition Prevention and Trade Secret Protection Act. KOLMAR says the ruling reinforces its commitment to holding parties accountable for technology leaks and to strengthening protection of its R&D assets.
