After about a decade of inactivity, the Daehangno Musical Center in Seoul reopens on the 30th as ‘NOL Theatre Daehangno’ following remodeling by Nol Universe. The venue spans basement 3 to 5 floors and about 5,200㎡, featuring a 935-seat main hall (Woori Card Hall) and a 490-seat mid-size hall (Woori Investment & Securities Hall) — the only nearly 1,000-seat theater in Daehangno. Originally opened in 2013, the center struggled with construction disputes and pandemic closures. The renovated space reduces three halls to two, widens seat spacing, improves sightlines to the stage, and upgrades backstage facilities. Opening productions include the musical “Secretly, Greatly” in the main hall and the play “Secret Passage” in the mid-size hall; future shows include the musical adaptation of Dostoevsky’s The Brothers Karamazov. NOL Theatre, a Nol Universe subsidiary, will manage operations and aims to revitalize Daehangno as a cultural platform for performers.
