Deep-Sea Research on Display: KIOST Special Exhibition at Busan Science Museum

The National Busan Science Museum is hosting a special collaboration exhibition with the Korea Institute of Ocean Science & Technology (KIOST) from April 20 to May 10. The exhibit features a full-scale model of the 6,000-meter deep-sea research vessel Isabu and a model of an underwater construction robot used for seafloor surveys. Visitors can explore the structure and function of real exploration equipment through hands-on displays and videos. Also on display are three types of deep-sea minerals—manganese nodules (called the “black gold” of the deep), massive sulfide deposits from hydrothermal vents, and manganese crusts—showing how these seafloor resources could become key materials for industries like electric vehicle batteries. The exhibition aims to introduce KIOST’s major achievements, highlight the strategic value of marine science and technology, and inspire future scientists through immersive experiences.
