Sejong Cyber University’s Barista & Sommelier Department will hold a special lecture, “Coffee Tasting: Humanities and Health,” on the evening of the 29th at its Seoul campus. Framing coffee as sensory culture and everyday health rather than just a beverage, the two-hour program centers on hands-on coffee tasting practice. Participants will learn to systematically experience and verbally describe key sensory elements—aroma, flavor, body, and aftertaste—and connect tasting to broader cultural and historical contexts. Health-related topics will also be covered, including caffeine and condition management and the relationship between caffeine and sleep. Professor Park Young-soon (author of “Coffee Humanities”) will guide trainees to interpret sensations and articulate personal preferences logically rather than treating tasting as a quiz. The department said the lecture is especially valuable for current and incoming students seeking a deeper, practice-based understanding of coffee and noted it continues to offer practical training in coffee, wine, and traditional liquor (jeontongju) for career development.
