The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (MAFRA) has started operating a 'foodtech business registration' system to better nurture the foodtech industry — the fusion of food and technology using AI and IoT. The system, required by the Foodtech Industry Promotion Act effective Dec. 21, shifts registration fully online via the FIS (Food Industry Statistics) portal run by aT (Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation). Registered companies will receive priority in future government support programs. MAFRA plans to use the collected data for detailed industry surveys and to design tailored policies such as R&D, export assistance, and workforce training. The ministry says the registration will clarify eligibility and improve policy efficiency to help Korean foodtech firms grow globally.
