Food Safety Sweep Targets Popular Dessert Delivery Shops Including 'Dubai Chewy Cookie'

South Korea’s Ministry of Food and Drug Safety will conduct intensive inspections of about 3,600 dessert and ice-cream sellers, including delivery-only dessert shops making viral items like the “Dubai chewy cookie” (두바이 쫀득 쿠키), from May 2–6. Inspectors will focus on hygiene in food preparation and kitchens, facility standards such as insect screens and waste covers, employee health checks, and the use or storage of undeclared imported ingredients and expired products—a particular concern because many Dubai chewy cookie ingredients are imported. Around 100 randomly collected prepared-dessert samples will be tested for foodborne pathogens. Unmanned ice-cream vending stores will be checked for expired or poorly stored products after consumer complaints. Authorities say they will punish violations and continue strengthening safety oversight of popular delivery foods and unmanned food retailers.
