Gana Art Hannam opens the year with Park Cheol-ho’s solo exhibition “Overlap (중첩),” featuring works that explore the idea that humans are part of nature’s continual circulation. Beginning with 1990s printmaking and a pivotal ‘Bird’ series inspired by two pigeons during his time in New York, Park moved from personal existential themes to broader natural phenomena. His recent “Overlap” series uses powdered pigments poured and allowed to flow on upright canvases, creating delicate variations of line and texture that evoke ink washes and the changing “grain” or movement of nature. This sensibility continued from his “Forest” series into the 2020s “Ripple” (물결) works. Park’s practice blends print and painting techniques, emphasizing accumulated traces and temporal change rather than fixed forms. The exhibition includes early prints and drawings alongside the “Ripple” and new “Overlap” paintings; it runs through Feb. 19 with free admission.
