Seoul’s cultural foundation launched the inaugural “Seoul Connect Stage” to help graduating young artists transition from university to professional performance. The program selected 27 teams (169 artists) from 16 universities to present shows from Jan 29 to Feb 13, and offers mentoring, networking and promotion. At the opening on Jan 26 at the Seoul Play Creation Center, a graduating traditional musician urged Mayor Oh Se-hoon to create spaces where young artists from different schools and majors can collaborate on new works. Mayor Oh agreed, suggesting the foundation institutionalize programs that bring selected creators together to produce interdisciplinary (융합예술) pieces. Organizers noted that only about 18% of arts graduates continue creative work, and framed this initiative as a way to give early-career artists stable opportunities and practical support.
