Samjeong The Park, Busan's only zoo located in Choeup-dong, will be acquired by Busan city after six years of closure due to financial and legal disputes. The city and KB Real Estate Trust (the zoo's side) reached a basic agreement in court to transfer the zoo to the city for under 50 billion won, with specific terms to be signed on Feb 9. With legal risks resolved, Busan has selected a contractor to develop a 'zoo normalization and basic operation plan' focused on transforming the site into a hub-style ecological zoo eligible for national funding. The city will review operation models (direct city management, public corporation delegation, or establishing a separate corporation) and will begin facility repairs and animal welfare checks once the sale is complete. Partial reopening is planned for October, with a full renovated grand opening targeted for Children's Day on May 5 next year.
