Indoors Day Out: Magok’s Grove Draws Visitors for Plants, Shows and Shopping

As cold weather persists, visitors are favoring indoor outings that combine exhibitions, performances, dining and shopping without traveling between locations. In Magok, Seoul Botanic Park’s winter ‘Winter Garden’ exhibit (indoor tropical and Mediterranean plants) and ongoing shows at LG Arts Center are feeding foot traffic into the adjacent mixed-use complex The Grove (원그로브). The Grove reports a 60% increase in visitors from June to December and longer average stays, as patrons shift to “stay shopping” — casual exploration between a show and a meal rather than purpose-driven purchases. The complex features bookstores, lifestyle showrooms, experiential spaces, and a concentration of kids’ brands on B1 to reduce movement burden for families. Connected directly to Magok Station via an underground walkway called The Grove Way (더그로브웨이), the site minimizes outdoor exposure during winter. Operators plan collaborative cultural marketing with local institutions in the first half of the year.
