Flutist Professor Lee Hong-gyu (retiring) will hold a farewell concert on Jan 31 at Yeongsan Art Hall in Yeongdeungpo, Seoul. Trained in Korea, Austria, Poland and Russia, Lee has served with the Seoul and Cheongju Philharmonics and led the Korea Flute Educators Association and Chungcheong Pops Orchestra. His concert features The Flute Orchestra (conducted by Professor Lee Bong-hwan) performing works including Geminiani’s Trio for Flutes, Yagisawa Satoshi’s flute quartet “Cocktail Paradise,” Handel’s “Arrival of the Queen of Sheba,” and Grieg’s “Holberg Suite.” PrimePhil, invited by ProArt, presents a New Artists Concert on Feb 7 at the same hall. Founded in 1997, PrimePhil is known for symphony, opera and ballet performances and gives over 100 performances yearly, serving as the resident orchestra of Gunpo Cultural Center since 2000. Conductor Song Jae-woo and artistic director/pianist Lee Hye-rim lead a program featuring young pianists from Korean universities (e.g., Myongji University, Chugye University for the Arts, Sangmyung University) performing piano concertos by Mozart, Haydn and Chopin. Contact numbers provided for both events.
