The Ministry of Science and ICT announced an expanded 2026 regional and commercialization R&D budget of 487.93 billion won, an 88.7% increase from last year. Of this, 88.855 billion won is newly allocated to accelerate the spread and market uptake of public research results through six new programs, including technology management promotion (TMC), a seed-to-fast-track scale-up program, university-lab–startup joint innovation R&D, and deep science startup support. The ministry will fund projects such as IP-based university commercialization (IP Star Scientist), TLO (technology licensing office) innovation, company-builder and comprehensive commercialization firms, plus proof-of-concept (PoC) and small-scale demonstration grants. New measures target rapid market scaling of public research, support follow-on commercialization for top national R&D outputs, and strengthen university–industry–research cooperation. The ministry says these steps aim to turn public research成果 (research outcomes) into economic growth drivers.
