The National Maritime Museum in Busan is hosting an international exhibition, "Shells, かい(ka i) - Traces of Korea and Japan in Shells," through March 2 to mark the 60th anniversary of Korea-Japan diplomatic normalization. Fifteen museums and research institutions from both countries lent artifacts, showcasing prehistoric and historic shell objects such as bracelets and two unique shell masks (one from Dongsam-dong, Korea, and one from Ataka shell midden, Japan). The show traces close past cultural links and highlights nacre inlay lacquer art (najeonchilgi) by comparing Korean and Japanese techniques, offering visitors a rare side-by-side look at shared maritime heritage. Free entry; closed Mondays.
