Luxury Brands Turn 'Kimjang Vest' Into High-Fashion Statement

Several luxury fashion houses have released vests resembling Korea’s humble 'kimjang vest' (a quilted sleeveless jacket traditionally worn by older generations during kimchi-making). Valentino listed fur-trimmed and jacquard vests priced around 3.4–6.3 million KRW, while Moncler sells a similar reversible floral down vest for about 2.33 million KRW. Once seen as unfashionable, the kimjang vest has been reinterpreted through irony and retro trends and gained global attention after being worn by K-pop stars like BLACKPINK’s Jennie and aespa’s Karina.
