Muan County in South Jeolla will host the 2026 Muan Winter Mullet Festival on Jan. 24–25 at Haegye-myeon Residents Multipurpose Center and Yanggandari Fish Market. The annual festival promotes locally raised mullet from the clean mudflats, supports fishermen’s incomes, and boosts winter tourism. Activities include a children’s ‘Catch the Silver Mullet’ experience using nets (뜰채), a new adult bare-handed mullet-catching event, and a cooking class to make mullet sushi and mullet cup noodles. Visitors can enjoy on-site grilling of freshly bought mullet and oysters, participate in games like mullet shoe-throwing and traditional Korean street hopscotch (사방치기), and shop a sales zone featuring local produce such as sweet potatoes, gill-grown seaweed (지주식 김), gamtae (감태), and eel. Organizers hope the festival will let people see, catch, and taste Muan’s signature fish while revitalizing the local economy.
