Classical Busan presents “Vienna New Year Week” at Busan Concert Hall, featuring world-class musicians from the Vienna Philharmonic and Berlin Philharmonic. On Dec 31 a Philharmonic Ensemble made up of Vienna Philharmonic members will perform a program of Austrian music including waltzes, polkas, operetta overtures, and opera highlights (e.g., selections from Mozart’s The Magic Flute and Johann Strauss II). On Feb 3 The Philharmonic Brass—20 top brass players from Vienna and Berlin, led by trumpet star Matthias Höfs—will offer a two-part show: classical works like Verdi’s Nabucco overture, then popular medleys from films such as Harry Potter and Star Wars, showcasing bright brass sound. Tickets are available through the Busan Concert Hall website and major Korean ticketing services. (Note: “operetta” is a light opera genre; “polka” is a lively Central European dance.)
